| After the NFL passed Memphis over (again) in 1994 for expansion, several leagues offered to fill the vacuum in the Memphis football market. The Pharaohs were Arena Football's entry into the Mid-South. After posting a respectable 6-6 record and a playoff appearance in their first season, the Pharaohs went 0-14 in 1996 season. After two seasons, the team's owners moved the franchise to Portland, citing poor attendance. Memphis re-entered the Arena fold in 2001, with the Memphis Xplorers, an Arena Football 2 team. |
